The cover is ready to go, and the content is being set up as well for this fall/winter issue.

Moving Right Along...

otto no. 2 is finally in layout stage, and we should have a rough copy of it to show at the Narratives meeting on Monday.

There is still time for submissions, however, as add-ins are the least of the work, unless heavy editing is required. We won't be bringing the touch of sophistication in variety we planned with this issue, i.e., graphic story and pseudohypertext, but it has retained the high quality standards in plain old text story format that is presented in essay, fiction and poetry.

otto no. 2

Just to update on the progress of the fall/winter issue of otto, one of the things the board has decided to do is to wait until October to produce this issue, in the hopes that we may have more content to include. With the start of a semester at Tunxis, and the summer vacations over, we are hopeful to see some more submissions, and rather than put out a lightweight issue, allow the time to receive and edit to produce a more professional magazine.

I do have the cover, drawn by local artist Diane Geras(amovich, which she obviously doesn't include as her full name), and I had hoped to scan it in immediately and give you all a sneak peek but unfortunately, with all the computer upgrades going around here, the scanner I now find does not work with Windows XP, and I'll either have to get a new one, or hook it to one of the four machines that still has Win 98 in it, install the Photoshop software if necessary, or somehow transmit the image to one of the other more sophisticated computers. It is a nice, simple image of the season, and I hope to show it to you shortly either here at the otto website or gracing the cover of otto No. 2 next month.

otto #2

The second issue of otto is shaping up nicely, and we can promise much interesting and diverse reading from some very talented writers.

We do have some room available in this issue for more poetry, flash fiction or a brief book review, but need to know right away if you have something you would consider submitting. Original art reproducible in black and white (greytones) or photography (same) may also be submitted.

With a bit of luck, the issue will be available in early September.

otto #2 Roundup

We have a great roundup of stories planned for this issue, and some surprises as well. What we still need are short-short prose and some more poetry.

There would also be room for an essay, personal or on a literary work, but are not interested in political opinions in essay form.

Deadline Moving Up

In order to give us the time to layout, print and produce otto #2 by September, we're going to need to move the deadline for submissions up a bit from July 30th to July 15th, and that's for publication-ready material. If you want some help on editing or rewriting, we need to receive it much sooner, by June 30th to give you time to make changes if necessary. Otherwise, submissions coming in July 15th (or thereabouts) will have to be accepted or rejected based on our editors' decisions.

This issue is going to be way cool. We're planning on a graphic story as well as hyperfiction, so it will truly be "a compendium of diverse narrative."

We're still looking for some more poetry and short stories, and would be interested in a review and essay for this issue as well.

otto #2

As brought up at the Narratives meeting on May 11th, we're planning on hyperfictionalizing otto to make it interactive. While it will be an easy matter of taking care of that online, presenting it in book form will be the challenge.

A sampling of each issue, perhaps a short story and one or two poems, will be available to read on the website soon. Obviously, our choice in otto #2 for the online version will be a hypertext piece (clever, eh?). Ideas are welcome on this submission, and a reminder to get submissions in as early as possible before the deadline--we may be filled up by then, since submissions are open to the public.

And don't forget--artwork and photography are welcome as well, just bear in mind the horizontal format and the restriction to black and white.

Submission Guidelines

The new Submission Guidelines have been set up as a permanent link to the right. While they note the deadline for the Fall/Winter issue as June 30th, for otto #2 only we have extended it to July 31st for September 1st publication just because of the newness of this literary journal and the time needed to get the word out. Any questions can be left as comments here, or e-mailed to the appropriate editors (these will be linked here shortly).

DEADLINE

Just a note to clarify that the deadline for otto #2, the Fall/Winter issue, is July 31st, 2005.

Guidelines for submissions are linked to the right, however, they are not in there yet! Will be working on them soon and they will be posted for fiction, non-fiction, poetry, art and photography, as to length, size, and what is considered the tone and flavor we are seeking (if we figure out what that is!).

Submissions are open to the public, that is, beyond the Tunxis and Narratives community, so keep that in mind and mention otto to your friends and family who have the talent and the desire to tell a story.
